Saw this feel good article today about a 13 year old boy using whitepages.com to track down the owner of a class ring that he found on the beach with his metal detector.  I bet the owner was ecstatic to get this keepsake back.

I would wager that there are countless stories like t ... Read More »

Just saw an article the other day about more and more consumers ditching their landline phonesAccording to a report due to be released Wednesday by the National Center for Health Statistics, nearly one out of every six homes in the USA — 15.8% — had only wireless telephones during the second half of 2007, up from 6.1% during the same period in 2004.

WhitePages.com has rolled out a new feature that allows users to add their cell phone number to their database.  It is absolutely free vs. paying to be listed in the print white pages or yellow pages. Once added, users can then quickly and easily lookup your number on the site.

I think that those whose livelihood depends on being found (e.g. realtors, contractors, etc…) should be all over this new feature.

One thing that I noticed in my surfing yesterday was that MySpace is now prompting its users to enter their real name (e.g. first name and last name).  I think that this an interesting development as they currently have a search box on top of every page that defaults to people search.

Undoubtedly, they much get a ton of users every day typing in people’s names into that box to try to find another MySpace member.  (See Facebook blog posting Read More »

Why would you want to find classmates? High school may only last four years, but the memories last a lifetime. It would seem as though there is no other period in a person's life that has such lasting impact on the person you become as high school. Then you graduate and real life begins. College, jobs, mortgages and family become your existence and the fun and challenges of high school memories begin to fade. One way to keep the memories fresh and remember the lessons you learned in high school is to do a people search on a site that specializes in helping you find classmates.

Sites designed to ...

You see it in the news all the time. A person that a family trusted to do work in their home as a painter, carpenter, electrician or handyman betrays their trust and returns to rob, kidnap or kill someone in the home. It is absolutely tragic and fortunately somewhat avoidable. It seems that often these criminals had a record before they attacked these innocent families. If the family had done a background check they would certainly have decided against having these perpetrators do work in their homes. There are several ways to conduct your own background search on the internet and sometimes the necessary information can be f ... It wasn’t long ago that people would offer to exchange phone numbers when they met someone interesting that they wanted to have future contact with. Nowadays, you almost never hear people asking for someone’s phone number; they almost always ask for your email address or whether you have a profile on one of the major social networks. For some reason, this seems less intimidating and is easier to remember without searching for a paper and pencil. Even if you forget the email address later, you can always run a quick email search and locate the information later.
