It wasn’t long ago that people would offer to exchange phone numbers when they met someone interesting that they wanted to have future contact with. Nowadays, you almost never hear people asking for someone’s phone number; they almost always ask for your email address or whether you have a profile on one of the major social networks. For some reason, this seems less intimidating and is easier to remember without searching for a paper and pencil. Even if you forget the email address later, you can always run a quick email search and locate the information later.
Email searches are becoming more and more popular as people are looking for more ways to connect. You can search for people from your past; maybe a long lost love or old high school companion. You can search for a friend’s email address that has been lost due to hard drive or other computer problems. You can even search for email addresses for your children’s teachers in order to clarify a homework assignment or ask questions about an upcoming test.
Sometimes people change internet providers and get a new email address. Usually, an email is sent to everyone in their address book letting them know about the change, but sometimes these notices get sent to your SPAM folder and you are clueless until you get an error message that their email address no longer exists. This is the perfect time to run an email search and find your friend’s new email address.
An email search is easy to do and most email search sites are free. Usually, you just type in the basic information about the person such as their first and last name and possible the state they live in. You will then be given matches to your search and you can choose the most likely ones and send an email to them inquiring whether they are the friend you are looking for. Hopefully, you find the right one and your friend responds to you placing them back on your contact list.
Another great use for an email search is asking for a date. Many times a person is too shy to ask for a phone number the first time they meet someone and regret it later. This would be a great time to run an email search and ask the person out. Email is so much less intimidating than a phone call and rejection is minimized. If you don’t receive an answer you might conclude that they never got the message or that the email went to the wrong person. This also avoids putting the other person in a difficult position if they are not interested.
There are so many uses for an email search, including finding old friends, classmates or lovers. Creating new relationships…the possibilities are endless.
