Paper phone books - Some unwanted friends

Some unwanted friends showed up on my doorstep today....Two BIG paper phone books. Every time these show up, I can't wait to recycle them as they just clutter up the house. I really can't imagine why anyone with a computer would use an old-school phone book. It kills trees. It uses lots of chemicals. It gets your fingers all dirty. There are so many better ways to conduct people searches and business searches on the Internet today and all for free.

If you want to stop the delivery of your paper phone book, you can opt-out here

White pages still needed?

Saw a very interesting article yesterday<u1:p></u1:p>

http://online.wsj.com/public/article_print/SB121321351350565275.html<u1:p></u1:p>

The article argues, among other things, that a cell phone directory is not needed. We here at PeopleSearch.com believe that the inherent need to find contact information on people is still very much in demand, it is just that people search services haven’t kept up. If there was a way to list your cell phone information and other contact information without fear of telemarketers abuse or SPAM, wouldn’t you do it?<u1:p></u1:p>

What do you think?

Get a call on your home phone or cell phone and don’t know who it is? Try typing it into our reverse phone search and you can find out the caller's name, address history, carrier, connection status, and location details. The peoplesearch.com reverse phone database contains many unlisted and cell phone numbers so it is likely that it will be able to find out who is calling you.

Feel good story about class ring finding its owner

<span style="font-size: 9pt; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"">

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"">Saw this feel good article today about a 13 year old boy using whitepages.com to track down the owner of a class ring that he found on the beach with his metal detector. I bet the owner was ecstatic to get this keepsake back.

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"">I would wager that there are countless stories like this every day where people have been successful using a people search service to track down the location of someone.

Consumers ditching landline phones

Just saw an article the other day about more and more consumers ditching their landline phones. According to a report due to be released Wednesday by the National Center for Health Statistics, nearly one out of every six homes in the USA — 15.8% — had only wireless telephones during the second half of 2007, up from 6.1% during the same period in 2004.

<u1:p></u1:p>

Obviously, the above trend has a big impact on the ability to find people in traditional white pages directories such as whitepages.com over time since cell phone numbers are not generally listed. This also has a big impact on the success of many reverse phone search tools. Luckily, the people search and reverse phone databases at PeopleSearch.com includes many unlisted and cell phone numbers so you will continue having a good chance of finding who you are looking for.

Register your cell phone number

WhitePages.com has rolled out a new feature that allows users to add their cell phone number to their database. It is absolutely free vs. paying to be listed in the print white pages or yellow pages. Once added, users can then quickly and easily lookup your number on the site.

I think that those whose livelihood depends on being found (e.g. realtors, contractors, etc…) should be all over this new feature.

Would love to hear your thoughts…

MySpace improving People Search?

One thing that I noticed in my surfing yesterday was that MySpace is now prompting its users to enter their real name (e.g. first name and last name). I think that this an interesting development as they currently have a search box on top of every page that defaults to people search.

Undoubtedly, they much get a ton of users every day typing in people’s names into that box to try to find another MySpace member. (See Facebook blog posting on number of people searches on their site). The problem is that, to date, most MySpace users don’t use their real name.

It will be very interesting if they get any traction with this new initiative.

Find Classmates

Why would you want to find classmates? High school may only last four years, but the memories last a lifetime. It would seem as though there is no other period in a person's life that has such lasting impact on the person you become as high school. Then you graduate and real life begins. College, jobs, mortgages and family become your existence and the fun and challenges of high school memories begin to fade. One way to keep the memories fresh and remember the lessons you learned in high school is to do a people search on a site that specializes in helping you find classmates.

Sites designed to help you find classmates are cropping up all over the internet because people love being able to connect with such a significant part of their pasts. Maybe you want to get in touch with an old flame or your best friend that you lost contact with after college. It is really fun to find out what life's path has brought to the people that used to be such an important part of your life. It seems odd that there are people that you haven't spoken with in years that you used to see every day of the week and tell them every detail of your life.

Class reunions are fun, but not everyone attends them. In fact, often only about 10% or less of a graduating class comes to their reunions. Not only that, but if you are like most people, you probably had friends that were older and younger than you and a class reunion won't help you catch up with these people. Doing a search to find classmates will allow you to find people in any class who attended your high school during your time there.

Reflecting on the past is a great way to check your direction for the future and taking time out to remember people who had an influence on your life is a great way to do just that. There are many reasons to decide to do a people search to find classmates and you may have to search within yourself to determine what your reasons are. Maybe it is a time for serious self reflection or maybe it is just for fun. You might get a kick out of seeing who still has hair or whose waistline has increased the most. You might be surprised to find out what occupations your classmates have chosen.

Whatever your reasons, doing a people search on a site designed to help you find classmates is a simple thing to do. There are just a few steps involved like setting up your profile, deciding on a free or paid membership and then doing a search for your classmates. Finding classmates is growing easier and easier as more people become interested in catching up on the past.

You see it in the news all the time. A person that a family trusted to do work in their home as a painter, carpenter, electrician or handyman betrays their trust and returns to rob, kidnap or kill someone in the home. It is absolutely tragic and fortunately somewhat avoidable. It seems that often these criminals had a record before they attacked these innocent families. If the family had done a background check they would certainly have decided against having these perpetrators do work in their homes. There are several ways to conduct your own background search on the internet and sometimes the necessary information can be found just by running a quick people search.

Many people searches offer a person the opportunity to get detailed information that includes their address, phone number, date of birth and criminal record. All this information can be compared with the information the contractor provides you with to verify that they are who they say they are and that they can be trusted in your home and with your family. Your home and family are important to you and deserve every protection you can offer them. Running a quick people search to check on a potential contractor's background is a simple way to protect your family and your belongings.

Another use for a background check through a people search would be for potential dates. Whether for you or a loved one, a background check done through a people search can save a lot of wasted time and maybe a broken heart by finding out the truth about someone before the relationship gets too serious. Many people tend to be too trusting and allow a person into their lives without really knowing who they are getting involved with. This is a dangerous mistake to make. Many people have been duped out of money, raped or killed by a person they chose to date and had they seen this person's background, it never would've happened.

The internet is an amazing thing. Almost any kind of information you need is available with just the touch of a button 24 hours a day. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain (if not information, then at least peace of mind) by doing a people search. There are many good people finder sites to choose from and most have options that range from free to $30 or more depending on the information you need. A background check through a people search can provide information that could save your time, money and maybe even your life or the life of someone you love.
